Find Benton County Jail Releases

To find someone released from Benton County Jail, identify the exact custody exit and determine whether it led to the community or another agency. The county publishes no official jail roster, recent-release archive, or release feed. Direct sheriff contact and a narrow request for the booking, release, or transfer event are therefore the strongest local path. A court order can explain why the exit occurred, while MDOC, federal, immigration, or another county system applies only when the jail record names that receiving custodian. Verify contact details before making an in-person trip.

Where Benton County Jail Releases Go

Benton County Jail is the county-custody hub operated by the Benton County Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff Robby Goolsby is identified on the official county site. A person may leave after posting bond, receiving recognizance, satisfying time served, completing a local sentence, beginning probation, obtaining a court order, or having a charge dismissed. Those events can return the person to the community if no other hold applies.

Other exits are transfers. A state sentence may send a person to the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Another county, a federal agency, ICE, a hospital, or another custodian may also receive a person. In each case, Benton County Jail custody ends, but community release has not been established. Ask for the exit type, release authority, receiving agency, and exact event time.

Custody rule: Disappearance from a current-custody source cannot distinguish bond, time served, transfer, or a coverage gap.

Confirm a Benton County Jail Release

The sheriff’s booking or release entry is the primary source for the physical exit. The court record is the legal-history layer. Use both when a case order, bond, sentence, dismissal, or transfer needs to be explained.

  1. Call Benton County Government and ask to be routed to the Sheriff’s Department or jail records custodian.
  2. Ask whether the named person is currently held, released to the community, or transferred. Request the exact event time and authority.
  3. Request the booking sheet plus the release or transfer entry for a narrow person and date range.
  4. For a felony case, search the Benton Circuit Criminal Court index and obtain the controlling order from the clerk.
  5. If the record says MDOC, another county, BOP, U.S. Marshals, or ICE received the person, move to that named system.
  6. Compare birth data, booking or offender number, charge, case number, and agency. Do not rely on a name alone.

The full Benton County released inmate search and records guide explains each county, state, VINE, court, and federal branch. For this facility, the sheriff record remains the starting point.

Benton County Jail Records Contact

The official county contact is the safe routing point because Benton County does not publish a dedicated jail contact page. It lists the county address, main phone, and email, but does not state jail-records hours. Call before visiting and ask where the records custodian currently works.

Benton County Government
190 Ripley Avenue
Ashland, MS 38603
662-224-6300

Ask for the Sheriff’s Department or jail records custodian; hours are not published.

The official Benton County officials page identifies Robby Goolsby as sheriff and supplies the county contact.

This county page is a routing source, not an online jail roster or release archive.

Verify the Benton County Jail Address

Two secondary sources give conflicting jail contacts. A current commercial directory lists 16670 Boundary Drive, Ashland, MS 38603, with 662-224-3062. An older agency directory lists 368 Ripley Avenue and 662-224-8941. Neither replaces official county confirmation. They should be treated only as leads.

Start with 662-224-6300 or info@bentoncountyms.gov. The official Benton County homepage is the controlling web route for updated county navigation. Ask for the current physical jail location, records-office location, visiting instructions, and correct jail telephone before traveling. This extra check matters because a sheriff’s administrative office, jail entrance, and records custodian may not use the same address.

Do not treat a disconnected line or person’s absence from one building as proof of release. Confirm the record and the receiving agency if staff reports a transfer.

Request a Benton County Jail Exit Record

No public release-request form was found. Address a Mississippi Public Records Act request to the Benton County Sheriff’s Department or jail records custodian through the official county contact. Describe existing records instead of asking staff to investigate or create a narrative.

Include the full booking name, alternate spelling, date of birth if known, approximate booking dates, and a narrow interval. Ask for the booking sheet, booking photograph, booking and release event, or transfer record. Requested fields may include booking number; booking and exit time; arresting agency; charge; bond type and posted time if maintained; court or case number; release type; authority; and receiving agency.

Request electronic copies, an itemized estimate before charges cross a stated limit, and reasonably segregable nonexempt portions. Mississippi Code §25-61-7 limits fees to reasonable actual cost. A written denial should cite the specific exemption. Juvenile, sealed, expunged, protected personal, medical, investigative, and security-sensitive details can require withholding or redaction.

Benton County publishes no jail-record retention rule. If an older event is unavailable, ask which records schedule applies and whether the event exists in another maintained booking system, archive, or paper file.

Match Benton Jail and Court Records

A court order and a jail exit are related but different records. The court may document bond, dismissal, sentence, credit for time served, revocation, or transfer into a state sentence. The sheriff record documents how and when the facility carried out the custody change. A Final Disposition Date does not necessarily equal the physical release time.

The Benton Circuit Criminal Court query supports name, case number, filed-date, and Final Disposition Date searching. It is a subscription index and warns that data may lag or omit activity; courthouse records are official. Circuit Clerk Kathy Graves maintains the docket, trial filings, verdicts, and judgments. Justice or Municipal Court may control a lower-level matter that never appears in Circuit Court.

Older files require special care because Benton Circuit Court’s MEC go-live date was February 10, 2025. A missing online result can point to a legacy or paper docket, another court, a spelling issue, an expungement or sealing order, or retention limits. It does not erase the need to verify the jail event.

MDOC Transfers from Benton County Jail

If the sheriff reports a state transfer, use the MDOC inmate search rather than continuing to look for a Benton County release list. Search by first and last name together or by MDOC number. Open the detail and compare date of birth, photograph, Benton as county of conviction where applicable, offense, sentence, Entry Date, Location, and Unit.

A prison Location supports continued state incarceration. An Earned Release Supervision location can mean the person is physically in the community while remaining an inmate under MDOC jurisdiction. The public “Tentative Release” field is changeable and does not prove an actual exit. Parole is another conditional status; complete discharge is a separate endpoint.

For definitive sentence computation, jail credit, or discharge material, contact MDOC Records through its GovQA portal or at P.O. Box 24388, Jackson, MS 39225, 601-933-2889, MDOCRecordsDepartment@mdoc.state.ms.us. The Benton County jail entry should still supply the local transfer time and receiving agency.

Other Benton Jail Transfer Destinations

No federal prison, dedicated ICE detention center, or MDOC prison was identified inside Benton County. Those systems are contingency routes, not descriptions of ordinary jail operations. A federal pretrial defendant may be held or transported under U.S. Marshals authority before any BOP designation. The BOP locator applies to federal prison records, not a local booking.

An immigration handoff, if documented in an individual case, is also a transfer. Ask the Benton County Jail record to name ICE or another receiving agency and give the transfer time. ICE’s detainee locator focuses on current immigration detention, not historical county exits. No Benton County ICE agreement was verified, so an immigration path should never be assumed from an absent local name.

A transfer to another county works the same way. Obtain the destination from Benton’s exit event and ask the receiving sheriff to confirm arrival or later release. This two-end check prevents a transport gap from being mistaken for freedom.

About Benton County Jail Custody

The facility is a county jail under the Benton County Sheriff’s Department. Research found no official current roster, archived roster, 24-hour release report, 72-hour report, mobile sheriff app, booking-photo feed, update cadence, or online retention statement. No verified capacity figure should be attached to the facility.

The Ashland Police Department holding page covers the sibling municipal route. Ashland may cite or release a person locally or move the person to Benton County Jail. A person absent from the station is therefore not automatically a released Benton County inmate, and both agencies may hold part of the event trail.

Hickory Flat and Snow Lake Shores were not shown to operate separate detention facilities. Statewide MDOC, federal, and immigration locators remain search channels only; they are not local Benton County facilities.

Benton County Jail Construction Funds

The Mississippi State Auditor’s FY2023 Benton County report identifies designated funds to construct a new county jail. This provides genuine facility context and helps explain why current location verification matters. The audit establishes the designated purpose of funds, not completion, opening, occupancy, or a change in the release desk.

No source reviewed for this page confirmed that a replacement opened. It would therefore be inaccurate to publish a new facility address based on the audit alone. Call the official county number and ask where jail records are now handled. The same rule applies to release pickup or property questions because the correct entrance and responsible office have not been published by the county.

Address caution: Confirm the current jail and records-office locations with Benton County Government before relying on either directory listing.
