Ask the custodian to preserve its own release-type wording. That avoids turning a transport time, order date, or booking-system posting time into an unsupported community-release claim.
Fields in a Benton County Release Record

Juvenile, sealed, expunged, victim, medical, security-sensitive, and active-investigatory material may be withheld or redacted. Benton County publishes no retention period. Ask for the applicable records schedule if staff says an older item no longer exists.

Mississippi’s Public Records Act, Title 25, Chapter 61, governs requests to public bodies. Why did the name disappear? A live roster, where one exists, is built to show current custody. Once custody changes, the name may drop even though an underlying booking and release or transfer record remains. An ERS location can mean the person is physically in the community while still an inmate under MDOC jurisdiction. Full discharge is different. Travel After an MDOC Release
MDOC’s release logistics do not describe a Benton County bond-out. For a state-prison release, the agency says a case manager verifies travel plans and may buy an in-state bus ticket to the destination or nearest city. MDOC does not buy out-of-state travel. Its overall processing can take 30 to 45 days and requires a discharge certificate.
That distinction keeps a tentative or eligibility date from being mistaken for the day a person physically leaves. A Board grant, ERS eligibility, approved destination, discharge document, and actual movement can occur at different points. Benton Jail Construction Record
The Mississippi State Auditor’s FY2023 Benton County audit identifies designated funds intended to construct a new county jail. That source proves a funding purpose. It does not prove that a replacement facility was completed, opened, or became the current release location.
This is important because current directories conflict about jail addresses and phone numbers. Before visiting, use the county’s official main contact and ask where the jail records custodian and release desk now operate. Do not infer a new address from the audit or treat a directory listing as official county confirmation.
Benton County Release Facilities
Benton County Jail is the county-custody hub operated by the Sheriff’s Department. Community exits, transfers, and release authority should be documented in its booking or custody record.
